We all know that hindsight is 20/20, but what if you could see that clearly into the future?

“If you’re constantly looking at past incidents, it’s easy to be stuck looking back at things that have already happened instead of looking forward to incidents you can prevent,” says Fredon Group’s National HSEQ Systems Manager, Simon Jonas. “It’s like driving a car and only using the rear-view mirror.”

There’s a tendency within HSEQ to focus on past injuries and incidents. While there are plenty of insights that can be drawn from past injuries and incidents to help keep your sites safe, our mates at Fredon wanted to implement an HSEQ system which captured a broader range of information. Everything from hazard notifications to near misses, and then allowed them to view all that data in one integrated place.

“We needed a system that was far more feedback-oriented, provided a great user experience to our teams on the ground and ensured that they played an active role in Fredon’s health and safety."

“While incident data is important, what we wanted to be able to do was understand the triggers and warnings in the lead up to an incident so that we can proactively tackle those risks before they cause serious harm or impact on the workplace. And Lucidity’s HSEQ software has been a key component in helping us gain access to that data to keep our sites safe.

“Prior to Lucidity, we had a relatively traditional HSEQ system. It was largely paper-based and the flow of information only went in one direction – from the top of the organization down to the sites. When you’re trying to capture data from sites and then use it to proactively address safety issues, you don’t want a system which moves in only one direction. We needed a system that was far more feedback-oriented, provided a great user experience to our teams on the ground and ensured that they played an active role in Fredon’s health and safety.”

"The most important benefit of the Lucidity system for us is being able to get the right piece of data into the right hands at the right time with the least amount of effort."

We worked with Fredon to implement a solution which moved their health and safety from a one size fits all approach to a customised and collaborative system.

“While our senior team want to be closely connected to the sites, when you’re running 20-30 sites you can’t personally get the level of knowledge you need without clever technology. And as we continue to grow, this would get increasingly difficult without the right systems in place. But Lucidity helps us create this connection to what’s happening on the ground.

“The most important benefit of the Lucidity system for us is being able to get the right piece of data into the right hands at the right time with the least amount of effort.

“It means all our HSEQ data is now easily available right in front of our senior leaders. Before Lucidity, we didn’t have any easy way to do this and would only be able to provide six-monthly or annual reports with this crucial information. And that’s too late.

“Now, we provide them this data weekly with real-time dashboarding helping to support our teams access the information they need to make the right decisions to keep our workforce safe.”
