Digital Transformation with Fredon

“When choosing the right HSEQ solution for Fredon, we had a rather specific set of needs that we had to meet,” says Fredon Group’s National HSEQ Systems Manager, Simon Jonas.

While all companies look to health and safety to keep their workforces and sites safe, every company will do this in a slightly different way. That could include anything from different internal HSEQ language, the need to capture different types of information or different systems and processes that need to be followed.

As a large engineering company, this is a challenge that Fredon faces with its HSEQ solution. Fredon provides engineering, construction and maintenance solutions to major builders all around the country. Major builders who have firmly ingrained health and safety processes, just like Fredon. However, these processes don’t always align. 

“This places us in a challenging HSEQ space because, not only do our systems need to meet our own high standards of health and safety, they also need to be flexible enough to integrate in with our clients’ requirements. Capturing crucial safety data in a way which works for both of us.

“Lucidity has been central to supporting these processes. Ensuring that we’re able to follow our own safety processes while also meeting our clients’ requirements and keeping everybody safe on site.

“Our previous safety systems provided significant barriers to achieving this because they were too manual and paper-based leaving them vulnerable to falling over. However, as we’ve been on this process of digital transformation with Lucidity, we’ve been able to remove these weaknesses in traditional systems and embrace the high level of customisation. Now, when we need to adapt a particular process or a digital form, I just jump into the Lucidity system, simply make the changes I need and then it is instantaneously updated across all the relevant sites and users.”

The digital transformation journey that Fredon has undertaken with Lucidity has been a key part in helping them bring this added flexibility to their HSEQ. But, in order for these systems to be most useful to both them and their clients, there needs to be a high level of take up from their workforce.

“Initially there was hesitation amongst our workforce. They’d experienced the poor roll out of clunky software in previous jobs that had made their lives more difficult. Having to remember different passwords just to capture different types of safety information in different systems added a level of complexity that provided a barrier from them proactively engaging with HSEQ software.

“But Lucidity was different. We’ve been able to bring all of our HSEQ software functions into the one piece of software. Making the data capture process simpler for our teams on the ground and also leveraging the flexibility of the system to fit the software around their specific needs. They can ask for changes and they see the results immediately, building their faith in the software and increasing its use.”

But the benefits haven’t stopped at the on site workers.

“Because all these HSEQ functions sit together in the one piece of software, our senior teams have been able to gain many more insights from the data. Comparing and contrasting data from different HSEQ processes in the one place. Allowing deeper levels of analysis which support us continually improving the safety interventions we are providing.”
